Mouthful of You

Just woke up again

mouth tastes like rotten turtle

the type Darwin saw on the islands

Need a mint or toothbrush or exorcism

for the spirit of you rests uneasy aftertaste

A rectangle of sunshine unfolds on carpet

looking like a hopeful closed casket

Scarlet with the wrench in the pantry (mouth)

Outsides not always resplendent as insides

You looking guilty as figures disappear

’round corners of corners down dim hallways

My head’s disconnecting from pillow plumage

the softness of someone else’s fine feathers

forgotten like you and flown away forever

leaving this salty marine iguana spray

in my morning’s mouth
