Animals Walking

A tiny germ
A little seed
A thing called need

From somewhere in Africa
Or others claim Asia

Oh, that’s too vague

Animals stood up, and
Started walking.

Now,

It’s gone awry, hasn’t it?

Steps quicken
With feet pointed ever on
And eyes held fast, forward looking
Though we’re prone to nostalgia, and
Glancing back
The legs’ movement generates
More movement of legs
And arms
And tongues
And organs
Grinding

Walking becomes running
Who know’s where that leads?
To the steam engine
To the factory
To the factory in droves
Running
Building
Breeding
Birthing

A tiny germ
A little seed
A thing called greed

And then
We have drones
Walking

And then
Mobile homes
Parking
Not going
But growing

Plus mountains of phones
Like bones stacking up
Piling up
To the factory
To the plant
To the industry grows our chant

This is from standing
Then walking
Then wanting
Then needing others to want
To want just a little more
A lot more

So walkers will run
From the factory
To the car lot
From the parking garage
To the strip mall
To the suburban mall
To the multi-use downtown mall
And the neon mega multiplex
Popcorn!
For movies with legs
All walking around
All wearing the fine stuffs
All desiring the glittering stuffs

And breasts
Buying bras

And all the pumping organs
Buying, eating, smoking, hating
Making, tearing, stealing, beating

But it’s all gone wonky,
Hasn’t it?

A tiny germ
A little seed
A thing called need

All for animals
Walking
To their deaths
